Shakti or mother goddess is worshiped in her various manifestations by millions of Hindus. Shakti Pitha’s are places of worship dedicated to goddess Shakti ( Sati/Durga/Parvati).

There are 4 Adi Shakti, 18 Maha Shakti and 51 Shakti Pithas in our country. Sri Chamundeswari devi temple is one of the 18 Maha Shakti Pitha’s.


Where is Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Temple Located

This temple is located on Chamundi hills which is around 15 kms from the city centre of Mysore.

This temple is at hieght of 1065 mts above sea level and dates back to 11th Century.

The goddess of the temple, Shri Chamundi mata is the presiding diety of the city of Mysore.

She is said to be incarnation of Goddess Parvathi. (has taken this form to destroy demon king Mahisahur, who was a demon and ruler of Mysore.).

The temple has a very beautiful idol of the goddess. A panoramic view of the city is seen from the top of the hills.

You reach to the temple via a public transport (regular buses from mysore city bus stand) or your own car.

But also there a long stairway leading to the top of the hill. There are more than 1000 steps to reach the temple (if some one wants to climb),

While climbing the steps, en route you also pass through the large monolithic statue of Nandi (the Bull of lord Shiva).- Shiva).

While driving towards the temple, you will find a marking for Nandi Bull.

How to reach Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Temple

Shri Chamundeswari Mata temple is acround 15 Kms from Mysore City.

The road leading to the temple is very good and driving is enjoyable.

The way is not hard to find and also directions are well marked.

Distance from Bangalore is approximately 150 Kms. You can take Bangalore-Mysore expressway.

Its a very good and straight drive.

Parking at Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Temple

Sufficient parking is available near the temple premises. There is a multilevel parking and you will find sufficient space to park your vehicle.
