Antharagange Temple – The Dakshin Kashi, Antharagange is a word in local language (Kannada) which means Ganges from Inner Deep. Why this place is called by this name is a interesting to know, but this place is for great religious important and this place is also referred to as “Dakshin Kashi” or the “Kashi of the South”. Antharagange Temple is a very famous temple of this region and attracts a lot of visitors.

And hence the temple at the foothill is called as “Kashi Visheshwara temple” and the presiding diety of this temple is Shri Kashi Vishveshwara.

What Antharagange temple ( The Dakshin Kashi ) famous for?

The place is called as Anthargange and as I mentioned before it means Ganges from Inner deep. This place is famous for a natural spring which is a perennial spring and comes out of a bull carved in stone and falls into the pond. The source of water is unknown and people believe that this eternal water spring comes from the Ganga in north and hence this place is called as Antharagange.


The water flows through out the year.

How to reach Antharagange Temple – The Dakshin Kashi?

Antharagange Temple (The Dakshin Kashi) ? is in Kolar district and is around 3 to 4 kms from Kolar itself. Kolar is around 70 Kms from Bangalore.
If you are self driving, the best route will be
Bangalore => Hoskote => Kolar => Anthargange

Road conditions are quite good through out, though the last 3 to 4 kms are a bit patchy.

You need to climb around 300 steps to reach the temple. Climb is not steep though. Just before the place from where you start climbing, there is a parking lot. But during weekends due to rush parking can be a challenge so plan accordingly. You need to pay a nominal parking fee.

Anthargange, apart from temple is famous for volcanic rock formations and natural caves and hence is it a very well known trekking destination.
Just behind the temple, there is a way gooing to the top of the hill and this trekking can be challenging for kids and older people.

When to visit Anthargange temple ( Dakshin Kashi )?

If you are going to visit just the temple, then anytime of the year is fine. But if you also want to trek to the top then summer can be a big challange. Also plan trekking early in the morning. But this hill is quite popular among trekkers.
