Nirath, 950 metres above sea level, is well-known for its Sun Temple, which has a distinctive “Nagara” shape. North India’s sole and unique Sun temple. Nirath Sun Temple is one of the must visit temples near Shimla , Himachal Pradesh.

This temple in Nrath is located 18 kilometres from Rampur Bushahr, an ancient region.
Nirath temple is at a picturesque location . Parts of the temple are decorated with carved wooden cornices and pillars.
Motifs of flowers and flower buds are beautifully carved on wood. Aedicules in walls have deities that are stone-like but really of red sandstone blackened by years of worship and offering.Nirth is rich in culture, old ladies still wear Rajtu , Dhatu and Gacchi.People follow Hindu religion ,they celebrate all the festivals Holi ,Diwali,Dussehra and Maha Shivratri.
Buddi Diwali is a fair which is celebrated here during the month of novermber and people from nearby villages come in large numbers to attend this fair.

So what is Nirath sun temple history ? Peolpe believe that Lord Parashurama oversaw the construction of the temple. Another tale claims that the Pandavas (during the Mahabharata era) resided here during their exile and may be responsible for the temple’s construction.
