Shri Mukthi Naga Temple also called as Mukthi Naga Kshetra is a very important temple dedicated to the serpent diety, Naga devata.
The temple you see today is a newly built building, but the temple has a history of more than 200 years old.
As per legend, the Naga devata used to reside in a ant hill, also called as “Hutta” in local language and devotees used to make 9 pradakshinas around the anthill.
It is a belief that by doing this, their desires gets fulfilled with in 90 days.
People here also call this place as “Junjappana Bayalu” i.e Junjappa’s Field.
The Mukti Naga temple is a temple complex of may other gods and goddesses.
You will find Sri Kaaryasiddhi (work fulfilling) Vinayaka temple which is dedicated to lord Ganesha.
Next to Mukti Naga temple is another temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya in Naga avatar.
On the left hand side of Sri Karya Siddhi Vinayaka temple, there’s a huge monolithic statue of Shakthi Dhara Subrahmanya. This idol is about 21 feet tall and weighs around 56 tons.
Then are devi temples with in the tempe complex.
With in the temple complexes you will also find around 107 sculptures of Nagas are kept in a covered passage and with 1 large 7 hooded Naga at the center of the top row.
Even today, Devotees first do pradakshinas around the anthill, and then go to the Sri Karya Siddhi Vinayaka temple.
After which only they offer prayers in the Mukthi Naga temple.
There is a small temple office from where you can buy pooja tickets, prasadam and some literature related to the temple
History of Mukthi Naga Temple
According to the legend, the Dharmadikari Sri Subramanya Shastri, felt the divine presence at Kukke Subramanya.
After that, he began looking for a specific Naga shrine.
After some time, he came to this Junjappana Bayalu and realised that it was a significant location.
He then built this temple here.
However the balding you see today is the new building.
The main idol of Serpent God Mukthi Naga is around 16ft tall and it is one of the biggest monolithic Naga idols in India.
People believe that the Nava Devata or the serpent god has been guarding this region.

How to reach Mukti Naga Temple
The temple is at a distance of 18Km’s from Majestic bus station.
There is another attraction near this place, called as the Big Banyan Tree and the distance from Big Banyan Tree is about 3KM.
The temple is very near to Ramohalli bus stand – approx 1 KM
If you are travelling by car then you need to cross Kanegri ( Mysore Road) and take Big Banyan Tree Road – you need to travel for around 5Kms to reach this temple.
You can also take public transport to reach the temple. You can take BMTC bus 227Y from Majestic bus stop to reach this temple.
You can also take 401KB which stops in front of the temple.
Please do check the route no and timings again as they might change as well.
