But before we tell about Bayalu Basava Temple at Kommasandra – Who is Lord Nandi?

Nandi, also known as Nandikeshwara or Nandideva, is Lord Shiva’s vahana. He is also the protector deity of Kailash, Shiva’s home. Nearly every Shiva temple has a stone figure of a seated Nandi facing the main shrine.

The word “Nandi” comes from Sanskrit, the ancient and the greatest Indian language. In English, the Sanskrit word ‘Nandi’ means happy or joyful.

Another suggestion is that the word Nandi comes from the Tamil word “nandu,” which means “bull.” Bull is a symbol of manhood and valour in Tamil culture.

The bull’s white tint represents purity and justice. In Shiva temples, the seated Nandi faces the sanctum, symbolising a particular soul and the lesson that one should always be focused on the Lord.

In all Lord Shiva temples, Nandi is a prominent figure. Many prominent temples in India represent the loyal and faithful Nandi, from the Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple in Bangalore to the Mahanandiswara temple in Kurnool.

The Mahanandiswara temple, in fact, has the highest Nandi statue in the world and is one of the few temples dedicated solely to Nandi.

People living in Bangalore, know about the bull temple which is quite famous. But, today I take you to a beutiful Nandi temple at the outskirts of the city..

Located on Chandapura Dommsandra Road , around 2Kms from Muthunallur Cross, it is said to be a very old temple.. The temple premises is grand and is said to one of the few grand Nandi temples in the region.

The Nandi idol here is said to be swaybhu . The temple is renovated, but the orginal Nandi temple is said to be an ancient one. Not much history is available. But speaking to the Purohit we found that the temple has special powers and Nandi statue is special.

There is a fair which happens once in a year and attracts lot of devotees from villages around. The temple premises is quite big. Lot of parking space available at the temple. Hope you will like the video!
